One Piece Odyssey release date is getting closer and closer!
One Piece Odyssey is coming slightly later than expected. Originally scheduled for 2022, the new One Piece RPG is now coming early next year. One Piece Odyssey Release Date: What other things should you know?
2023 Odyssey Release Date announcement gave us a look at what this game is about. In the role-playing game One Piece Odyssey, players take command of Luffy, the other Straw Hat Pirates, and unnamed NPCs. While exploring an island, players take on tasks, explore dungeons, work puzzles, and engage in turn-based battle with various animals. The main plot lasts about 20–30 hours, plus there are other side tales and linked tasks. The crew is separated between active party members and reserve members during battles. Regardless of whether they are a member of the current party or not, all characters gain experience points.
The crew is split up, The Straw Hat Pirates shipwrecks on a mystery island, and Luffy loses his straw hat. To locate Zoro, Nami, and Brook, Luffy, Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, Robin, and Franky traveled to the island. They entered King Kong Garden by accident and came upon Nami being surrounded by a Del Kong. They managed to get to the Del Kong's nest after battling against Eisas and Dry Penguins, but Zoro intervened to stop the beast from harming Nami. The Five Elders send a specific individual to the island after learning that the Straw Hat Pirates have capsized on Waford. They eventually met Adio Suerte, who aids them on their trip.
Prior to its 2022 public presentation, One Piece Odyssey had been under development for at least three years. When the game was revealed, its producer, Katsuaki Tsuzuki, did a video interview where he talked about how the idea first got started and how Oda became involved. The art team at ILCA created the environment and other artwork based on Eiichiro Oda's tale and universe, and Eiichiro Oda supplied drawings for Adio and several creatures. Motoi Sakuraba, who is well-known for his musical compositions for the Tales and Dark Souls series, created the game's soundtrack.
One Piece Odyssey's gameplay consists of a combination of puzzles, dungeons, navigation, and fighting. Bandai Namco has been touting a system it refers to as "the Dramatic Scene system," where unexpected events might arise and, for example, Usopp can feel terrified by an adversary and need rescuing. In the usual JRPG method, various talents and characters level up to get stronger. The crew's skills and memories are apparently being collected as part of the plot while they are on the island of Waford. This basically equates to leveling up over time to get stronger and eventually reach the level of strength the Straw Hats were at before they became stuck on the island.
One Piece Odyssey will be released for PC via Steam, PS5, PS4, and Xbox Series X. Notably, the upcoming JRPG is not set to release for the Xbox One. While not releasing for the previous generation is increasingly common, it is a bit odd for One Piece Odyssey to still be releasing on the PS4 but not the Xbox One.
