Embark on an epic journey with the reimagined Final Fantasy VII from 1997! After the warmly received Final Fantasy VII Remake (Best Role Playing Game of 2020 at Game Awards), Square Enix announced the next game of the iconic trilogy, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, for the PS5 console. 

The story of Cloud and his companions is a classic and considered by many the best in the franchise, making it one of the best jRPGs in history. Divided into three standalone chapters, the Final Fantasy VII remake project follows the storyline crafted by its original creators. The Unknown Journey continues and will bring our protagonists to the edge of their capabilities.

The Forgotten Capital

After settling accounts with the ruthless Shinra Corporation, Cloud and his friends Aerith, Tifa, Barret, and Red 13 leave the dystopian city of Midgar to roam the vibrant and vast world of the planet Gaia. The creative director, Naoki Hamaguchi, describes it as a “multifaceted world with a high degree of freedom,” meaning it features an open, expansive world to explore.

Rebirth is filled with distinct regions. The expansive environments consist of grassy plains, deserts, snowy areas, and swampy regions that blend perfectly with each other and don’t feel out of place. A game demo can show you a glimpse of its staggeringly large release!

Multilayered Combat

Combat mechanics closely resemble those in the 2020 game. It continues to be an active, arcade, and dynamic model of clashes, which is varied by commands given to allies. Once the appropriate bar is filled, your party members will help in combat and bring out special attacks. 

Thus, it's an extremely satisfying nod to the turn-based clashes from the original. All this, according to the developers' announcements, is fully enough for up to 100 hours of gameplay, which is expected to draw you in from start to finish. New adventures await on the planet Gaia!

Mini Games

In the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, many old mini-games from the original are coming back, but they're made even better for the new remake series. There's also a new mini-game that will keep you busy, even when you should be focusing on chasing down Sephiroth.

We've seen a bit of boxing, racing with chocobos, and a fun version of the motorcycle chase from Final Fantasy VII Remake. Rebirth, however, adds a card game similar to The Witcher 3's Gwent, where you will play against different characters in card matches. An excellent timekeeper, for sure!

Like in the original game, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth brings over a cast of playable characters known to the fans of the franchise. Most of them are coming from previous installments, but a host of new characters are joining the roster.

Fans are really looking forward to playing as Sephiroth in Rebirth due to the scenes from the past with him teaming up with Cloud, like in the original game. Additionally, Zack Fair – a good friend of Cloud's – will also be playable in Rebirth. That friendship will surely affect the game's story in a big way!
